About Sex On Fire

Released in 2008 as the lead single from Only By The Night, “Sex On Fire” was Kings of Leon’s breakthrough into the mainstream after three albums that had built them a devoted but smaller following. The Nashville band — brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill and their cousin Matthew — had been playing together since their teens, raised in a travelling preacher family across the American South. “Sex On Fire” reached #1 in the UK and went on to win two Grammy Awards in 2010: Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group and Best Rock Song. The title was famously cryptic — Caleb Followill has admitted the lyrics came partly from a night of heavy drinking, which may explain both their opacity and their emotional impact.

About R U Kiddin’ Me?

Anouk Teeuwe — born in The Hague in 1975 and known simply as Anouk — has been one of the most distinctive voices in Dutch rock since her breakthrough with “Nobody’s Wife” in 1997. “R U Kiddin’ Me?” appeared on her third album Urban Solitude in 2000: a typically direct, attitude-first track that showed why she earned the title of Dutch rock queen. Her raspy, powerful delivery has always sat closer to rock and blues than to the polished pop her Dutch contemporaries often pursued. She later represented the Netherlands at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest with “Birds,” giving her voice to a much larger stage. It held up fine.
