Released in 1983, “Owner Of A Lonely Heart” was the lead single from Yes’s album 90125 — named after its Atlantic Records catalogue number. The album was produced by Trevor Horn, a man who in the same decade also produced Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Art of Noise, ABC and Seal. His touch on this track is unmistakeable: the stabbing guitar intro, the crisp gated snare, the layers of synthesizer that somehow still sound enormous. It became Yes’s biggest commercial hit and their only song to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Classic prog fans were horrified. Everyone else loved it.
